Applying for internships
This section contains a non exhaustive list of suggestions for any Sri Lankan undergraduate applying for research internships.
-
AIESEC global talent makes it easy for you to get Visa for any internship (as of 2019). Talk to the AIESEC branch in your university.
-
IAESTE is similar to AIESEC but it is lesser known. Sri Lanka is listed in their website. While the Sri Lankan branch is situated in a particular institute, the branch is supposed to help any student. Contact the branch early and contact the global organization if they fail to help you.

IQ labs has conducted a series of youtube interviews in Sinhala with SL students pursuing graduate education around the world. The opinions/facts are anecdotal but totally worth listening into if you are a SL graduate hoping to apply to grad school.
- Do NOT take IELTS at IDP Sri Lanka before making sure if they can send results electronically to the list of universities that you want to apply.
(As of 2020, I have not heard British Council refusing to send results to a univeristy because it is not in their list. But IDP refused to send it to McGill, Canada).

Hasindu Gamarachchi wrote a facebook post about the computer engineering program at University of Peradeniya for first year undergraduates picking a specializaiton. This post demystifies a large number of myths regarding computer engineering.
Disclaimer: Please note that adding this link here in no way implies a blanket endoresement. The anti-software-programming tone of the post comes from HG being one of the best embedded engineers in the world. Also, I don't have enough information to comment on his point about the depth of courses in different public/private institutes.
